MSOE Jeopardy Game

Project Summary:

In my Human-Centered Design class, me and my group were tasked with creating a game. This game could be either mobile, online, or board game and it was up to us as a group to determine which type of game to do. Based on user interviews our group conducted we came to realize that our users seemed to prefer mobile games that could be multiplayer as well. With that in mind, we decided to do our own twist to the very popular Jeopardy game and tailor it towards MSOE and users learning about the MSOE Mindset. With this, I created a prototype of the game utilizing AdobeXD and implemented multiple design elements to help attract users. I created a welcoming interface that would help users learn and implement the MSOE mindset in their own being. This project was done in a span of four weeks and went through every step of the design process which are empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test.

Project Analysis:

In this project, I was tasked with the entire creation of our prototype. From this, I felt like I did well in my research portion really good as I used inspiration from the current jeopardy mobile game as well as other trivia games. This project was found to be in the middle of the semester which helped as I was able to learn some of the elements of design in user experience. I was able to utilize the design element of gamification in the creation of the app by having rewards and multiple elements. This was added as it has the benefits of, increased Engagement, Enhanced Learning, Behavioral Change, and Social Interaction. I was also able to implement the MSOE mindset in the game to make sure with every interaction users are able to become more educated. From this experience I was able to learn about many design elements I would be able to improve on by my professor. She stated how creating a specific color palette for the app would help improve the clarity and flow of the app. Also, the importance of typography as it helps effectively Communicate with users, the Visual Hierarchy of the app, and helps improve Brand Identity. Another improvement was how the app would be used. Considering most of the world is right handed it was highlighted that the most important buttons should be reachable with one hand. This ensures inclusivity and ensures the design is tailored towards the users. Overall I learned a lot about the design of apps from this project and I take this as a learning experience to improve my skill set.
